Some things I love about December

It is really easy to get all caught up in the business of the month of December, and not appreciate the little things. I have had the chance today to slow down and think a little bit, and I realized that these Christmas seasons where I get to be the mom of little kids who are excited and fun are fleeting. So I have thought about some things that I love most, and thought I would write them down so when I get all frazzeled with all the things I feel like I have to do or should do I can look back....
1. GOOD FRIENDS! I love that I have great friends that help me and love me despite all my flaws. Of course they are my friends every other month too, but December seems to bring to my attention the value of good friendships.
2. Decorating the tree. I LOVE decorating the Christmas tree. Every year I get each of my kids an ornament. They are never expensive or fancy, but it is fun to have them each find their ornaments, and put them on the tree. I also love the smell of real Christmas trees, and that is why I have never been able to make myself buy a fake one. Although it would be MUCH easier, real Christmas trees hold some pretty powerful memories for me of home. I want the same for my kids.
3. My mom. I love my mom all the time, but she is especially great during December. She has always made everything so much fun during Christmas, and still does. I hope my kids can say the same about me.
4. Wrapping presents. It might be childish, but I have always LOVED wrapping presents. I have kind of started a new tradition with myself of staying up all night the night before Christmas Eve and wrapping presents. I watch movies that make me cry, eat chocolate, and wrap all night long. It is so much fun! Any of you moms that live by me are welcome to join me!
5. Being a mom during December is great. It is really fun to see the kids' anticipation, and to think of new traditions that will make really great memories for them. Lyndi is old enough that she
6. Singing in a choir. I don't have a particulary good voice, but I love singing in choirs. I finally managed to start going to our ward choir at church (thanks to Jeanne), and am really enjoying it I also really love the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the way they sing Christmas Carols-hence the music I choose!
I hope you all are having a good December.

Good post Monica, I stay up Christmas Eve and wrap too, but that is because there is no other time I can! I love wrapping too, maybe I will be knocking at your door Christmas Eve with gift wrap? Just kidding- I could never get out, but know that I am probably with you "in spirit".

I love the same things about Christmas too, Monica--except the staying up all night one. I am not tough enough to do that one. I'm so glad you have good memories of Christmas as a child. Your tree is beautiful and I can almost smell it from here. I need to get me some pine boughs since we won't have a real tree this year. See you on the 15th.
Tu Amor,
Madre

I miss you. I would be afraid to wrap presents and eat chocolate at the same time. How would I explain the chocolate finger prints and occasional drool marks Santa left all over the presents? You've seen me eat chocolate! Have a fun time! Love ya

I LOVE wrapping presents, too! Problem is, I could easily waste 30 minutes on one gift just to make it fabulous!
