Summer School

In my attempt to be a great mom, I decided to teach the kids something....or try to. I have been pretty busy trying to get our yard into shape . I have been really researching plants and stuff this spring....I decided to teach the kids some botany. Last week we learned about worms, and how they help plants grow. We went to Wal-Mart and got some cheap little shovels and then we came home and dug in one of my many unplanted flower beds for some worms. The kids found all kinds. We had a great time. We also learned about spiders and other insects that the boys thought were great. When we were in Utah Grandpa Murdock found a huge dragon fly and caught it. The kids put it in a jar and named it zipper. We let him go a few days ago, and Seth and Nathan really miss him.

This week we are going to learn about different flowers and how plants grow. We might go on a nature hike on Saturday to find wild flowers. We are also going to have replant our garden so I am going to have each of the kids plant a couple of seeds and let it be their project.

I always feel so close to Heavenly Father when I am gardening because it takes such faith...I am hoping that it rubs off on the kids.

I love this post, and I remember this day. We came to get Lyndi for Achievment Days and she told us you were digging worms. I asked if you were going fishing or something. Great mom teaching moment. I can relate to this post, although I can't plan it (not organized), but I try to find the moment when it presents itself.
