Life is filled with moments that I end up saying cliche' remarks that I vowed I would never say...well I think I have said every one of them during the last week.
1. "I will tell you when you are older."
Lately Lyndi has been wondering why some girls kiss lots of boys, and why some girls act silly around boys. I tell her as I much I as I think she can understand, and then end the questioning with "I will tell you when you are older." It is okay that with for now that she thinks that you HAVE to marry the first person you kiss.....because of this she will "be really careful" she says.. that is music to my ears.
2. "I will give you something to cry about."
Nathan woke up on the wrong side of the bed Thursday. You all know how it is. He just sat on the couch and cried for a long time. Every time I asked him "what do you need?" he just stuck out that bottom lip a little further. Every time his brother and sisters would talk to him he would lash out irrationally with piercing screams. It was getting ridiculous....hence the cliche'.
3."There are STARVING children in Africa that would love this dinner"
Tuesday night I was embarking on a journey to be more creative in my cooking selections. I made something that tasted good, but sounded and looked disgusting. The kids didn't like it, and I replied with........well you know.
4. "When you are a mother you'll understand".
Seth and I were having a conversation about naps that went something like this:
Seth:"Why do love to sleep so much?"
Me: "Because I am really tired all the time."
Seth: "I hate sleeping."
Me: "Well, when you are a mother you will understand."
The funny thing is that I doubt that he will ever be blessed with the opportunity to be a mother....oh well, it still had the desired effect.
5. "Don't make me pull this car over."
Today on the way home from church Seth and Nathan were Fighting over a book that we actually have two of, but failed to bring both of them (silly me, I thought we only needed one copy of it for proper appeasement during sacrament meeting). So after saying the above cliche' he pulled the car over and kicked Nathan out of the car. Seth burst into tears. He really was concerned that we were actually going to leave Nathan. We were almost home, so don't worry, we weren't leaving him on the side of the highway or anything.
So here we are, cliches are are all out of my system, and I won't use them ever again.
