Mean Green Gladiators

I volunteered to coach Lyndi's soccer team. Heaven only knows what possessed me to do it, but it has been pretty fun. Although the song playing is about baseball, the chorus, "put me in coach!" is perfect for our little team. They all love to play, and it is fun to watch them. Sometimes they like to stand around and giggle and do all the silly little things 8 and 9-year-old girls do. Their favorite thing is to lead the stretching. I have a sneaking suspicion it is because they get to sit down during some of the stretches. Sometimes I wonder if I am too hard on them. Something from my high school soccer glory days (okay, not really "glory" days) has made think that they should RUN while they are playing soccer. We have lost all three of the games we have played, but I am glad to say that they try harder during games then practices. I am hoping that we win at least one. My competitive side sometimes wants to rear its ugly head, but I keep reminding myself of the league's rules to "let everyone play every position". Lyndi, I am pleased to say, is VERY good. She has so much fun and tries so hard. She is especially good at defense, and isn't afraid to use her elbows, although she has gotten called on it a couple of times. She gets that from her Murdock genes. Murdocks LOVE to use their elbows. We have a few girls that have never played soccer before. They are improving a lot, and I am pretty proud of them. We also have a couple that are really good, and I think they get frustrated because our team lacks experience. We will get better. Anyway, it has been so fun! I really do enjoy coaching most of the time.
